Mechanical problems with XK8
I'm looking to buy a 2000-2001 Jaguar XK8. Think it's a beautiful car - fast and smooth. My concern is that Jaguar has a bad rep for lots of mechanical issues. I know that Ford has improved these, but the rep is still bad.
Have you had a bad experience with Jag quality? What typically goes wrong with the XK8 - especially as the car reaches the 50-70K mileage range? How much is your car in the shop?
Anything in particular to check or look out for when buying a 2000 XK8?

RE: Mechanical problems with XK8
They are great cars but remember this is an exotic car. It will require maintanance and services regularly. 3K a year is not unheard of. If you are looking for a reliable car I would sugest you buy a Honda (no insult intended). I have heard people get upset re repair costs. But keep this in mind if this was a Ferrari and you only put 2K miles a year on it you could expeck 5K a year in maintanance. With the Jag you can put 18K miles a year on it and only expect 2-3K in services. I hope this helps....

Yep, they are expensive to keep up. I just bought an actron computer and a copy of the JTIS Jaguar Technical Information Specification. If you are handy in the garage, then get a computer at autozone for 150 dollars and work on it your self. Otherwise, you cannot get out of the Dealership for less than $500 a visit... I would not describe mine as a reliable car with only 34,000 miles on it.
