Metal hit/bang sound after engine off
My XKR (2006) makes very annoying sound right after the engine is turned off.
It seems to be from the front side... possibly under the hood.
I'm not sure how to precisely describe it , so I took a video this afternoon.
Can anyone help me identify this noise/sound? Is this something I need to worry about?
Thanks in advance.

It would have been better with the hood open. engine running and then shut it down ..How long after you shut it down does it do this ?
Sounds like the catalytic converters /exhaust cooling...mechanics stethoscope job?

It's literally right after. I will post a video with the hood open. Thanks for your reply.
Mine does that as well. I'm pretty sure it's just the exhaust cooling down and retracting and expanding in different ways. It's a big exhaust system afterall. If you stick you're head under the car when it's cooling down you can here it come from the exhaust, mostly from the center box where the exhaust merges together.
It does sound kind of like exhaust or heat shields cooling off and shrinking. To some degree that's normal, but that seems quite loud. I suggest to visually inspect the exhaust front to back looking for any broken welds or loose shields. Another thing to check is that all the nuts/bolts and fasteners in the exhaust system are tight.

It's the converters cooling off, they have cast iron and sheet metal together, and they get really hot.....makes lots of krinkling sounds after shut off.
