Default Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (18" rims)

Hi,
Does anyone have an opinion on/experience of these?

My existing Pilot Sports are getting on in years...

Thanks,
Mike

No direct experience, all from comments in the Porsche and Aston Martin forums, as I only Pilot Sports on my 911 . The PS4 are said to be a better version of the original PS. I think they are for more performance oriented driving vs what many of us would do in our XK8 / XKRs. If you have the Pilot sports now then the PS4 would be a step up in handling.

For my XKR I went with the Michelin AS3+. Decent handling, wear well, good wet weather traction and for the colder winter months in southern Georgia they still maintain ok grip. Not sure if the PS4 would be good in cold but dry road conditions, if you live in a location where that is a possibility.

The Michelins are pretty much the standard for summer performance tires. I don't think you can go wrong with them. The car probably won't be able to make the most of them, but if you can spare the expense, go for it. I almost bought them but went with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s (they have about 200mi on them right now, so I can't really give a review yet), which were about $500-600 less for the set (I have 20" wheels, so for 18" wheels the difference may not be so stark).

My understanding of the PS4s is that they're pretty much identical in performance to the outgoing PSS. So if you're happy with those, then you will probably be satisfied with the PS4. I don't have first hand experience with them, but I've never heard anyone complain about the PS4

The PS tyres have been fine but that doesn't necessarily mean any successor would be, so thank you both for the feedback.

I don't drive hard very often (nowhere here to do it), so I will check out the AS3s. Sounds as if either will work for me so availability may be the deciding factor.

Cheers,
Mike
