I noticed while doing routine maintenance that the air intake duct that feeds into the air filter box from the front right wheel well sometimes comes loose from the air box. I have no idea why but it has happened a couple of times recently. I've had the car 10 years and until now had never had this issue. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? Not a really big issue but I don't want hot air going into the air filter.
Any input would be welcome. For what it's worth, the engine is not vibrating beyond normal specs so I guess it's not shaking loose.
dogsoup,
Yeah, this happens to me too. I think it's a sign of thermal aging in the plastic. There is a small lug underneath the intake scoop that should locate and click into the airbox housing. Check yours is not upside down or damaged. Push it in hard and see if the lug engages. See pic. You may have to screw a small self-tap screw through both flange layers to stop it disconnecting again.
Thanks for the heads up. I did notice the lug but couldn't get it to click into place properly. I'll give it another shot with a bit more elbow grease.
Also, check your Instrumount has not de-bonded top or bottom. This would lead to more vibration on the Airbox and perhaps the failure you describe. Watch vid below.
