Missing the summer Jag, Winter Jag Coming
I put the XK-8 away this past weekend with the first snow, now faced with driving a Chrysler Minivan for 5 months , eck! While perusing Jags in Kijiji as I do to keep up with prices etc, I see a 2004 X-Type with 128,000 km. for sale, growing family and the fellow needs more space. Turns out my 2006 Grand Caravan with low kms. has about the same blue book value. I just said, wanna trade? He agreed. So we are both getting safety and emission tests and meeting halfway between were we live at a license bureau to make the switch on Saturday. This forum has been wonderful for me with my 2004 XK-8 and I am sure the X-Type group will be just a wonderful. Before Minivans I had a 1987 Audi Quattro Turbo and have missed the AWD in the winter for many years. Hey what could be better, summer and a winter Jag.

My winter car is a T&C also. It's white so it's camouflaged. I haven't officially put the '8 in storage yet as I need to wash it tomorrow and change oil. Hopefully the roads aren't too sloppy the few blocks from the car wash. I toyed with the idea of a winter Jag (although mine would be an XJ, X-types are too small, and I like RWD in the snow) but I think I will end up with a P71 Crown Vic (Police Interceptor). I sold my Jeep last year, so we went down a car for a bit. Once we are a bit more stable, I want a new winter car (I argue it keeps miles of the van so it stays just for trips)

Hey Daro31, and FabCat. I have an 07 X Type, and absolutely love it. It doesn't get much use in the summer, unless I happen to have passengers with legs.
Before things get too wild, there are some things you need to do before you get into the snow. CHANGE THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID, and CHANGE THE TRANS FLUID, as well as any other type of fluids you can handle. The X Type is the best 4X4 I have ever had. Once the back seat folds down, you can haul almost anything within reason.
As much as the other Jag folks(mostly the small ***** crowd) like to take shots, that it isn't a true Jag, most have not looked at their own cars close enough to find the similarities.
My X Type is quicker off the line, than my XK8....not that it matters, but she feels like a true luxury car, on long trips. There is almost no body flex, the mechanicals are quiet, and anything that keeps my butt warm gets my vote.
Read the X Type forum thoroughly, and remember that these are all luxury cars. Jaguar hasn't made a true sports car since the 70s, so treat them that way. be cool......Mike
