Default Mobile phone

Hi all,

Is it possible to connect a modern mobile phone to the 1999 xkr built in phone system?

Either direct connect or bluetooth.

Ive tried ebay but there are only handsets for later xj models.

I guess a parrot bluetooth could be fitted but its not as slick and messes up the clean lines of the dash.

Any suggestions welcome.

Regards,
Ross

Does the phone in your car work now? If not, it may need an upgrade from analog to digital, before even trying what you want to do. Just a question a more knowledgeable person about your system might need to know.

I dont have a handset, thats the point. The manual shows only the old analogue style of gsm mobile. So id like to know if its possible to connect a modern mobile either via cable or bluetooth.

Thanks for trying to help though

Bluetooth is the way to go. Install one with a small control unit in the ashtray and it will not mess up the dash lines.

Didn't know you didn't have the handset. Doesn't really matter. I agree with WhiteXKR. Upgrading the unit in the car would be expensive, if even possible, and probably still not work as well as his suggestion.

You can tie a Parrot or other bluetooth setup in to the existing wiring in the car so that it works like the factory system would. Mutes the radio, sound the the speakers, microphone in the overhead console, etc.

There are several threads linked in the DIY sticky.

Not seen any way to attach a modern phone to the Jaguar system which in a 99 will be a Motorola digital phone locked to Vodaphone if you are in the UK.
Get a bluetooth kit
