Motorcraft Coolant for XKR? - Specification change?
Hi,
I'm trying to buy the correct coolant for my 2003 XKR. As we know, the specification (shown on the coolant cap) is for WSS-M97B44-D.
I'm out of town for the week, so asked a buddy to drop by the Ford Dealer to buy 'Specialty Orange Engine Coolant with Bittering Agent' (which meets the spec). Thought this was going to be easy....
However, when he went to pick it up, he saw that the container was labelled as meeting the following specs (even though the name matched the link above)
ESE-M97B44-A (note: ESE instead of required WSS and –A instead of –D)
WSS-M97351-A
WSS-M97B55-A
Note that the Motorcraft spec (see link the link above), specifically says NOT for use in cars requiring ESE-M97B44-A. This makes me think the two specs are incompatible. The Ford dealer says he doesn't know, and can no longer check specs.
Anyone know if I should be using this? (and if not, can they suggest where/what I should be using. I've read the various threads indicating not to use Dexcool or the Prestone 'Universal' coolants - but this seems to be all the local Autostores stock). Again, my problem is getting to the Jag dealer during the time they are open....
Thanks
Steve

See this page instead:
Motorcraft® Engine Cooling System Products and Engine Coolants
They list:
Motorcraft® Premium Engine Coolant With Bittering Agent
Motorcraft® Premium Gold Engine Coolant With Bittering Agent
Motorcraft® Specialty Green Engine Coolant With Bittering Agent
Motorcraft® Specialty Orange Engine Coolant With Bittering Agent
Are you sure your bottle says "orange", since they all contain bittering agent?
The "not dexcool" thing is a *personal* preference which requires that the system be *completely* flushed of any previous coolant.
If your current coolant is dexcool, which is the ford orange equivalent, then you have to stay with a dexcool type if you are just going to top up.
The Ford Gold is similar to the BASF Glysantin formulations as used in Mercedes and some late 90's Jaguars.

By buddy called. He had misread the label....the Motorcraft 'Orange' still meets the Jaguar specs. He (and the dealer) both read the list specs it's NOT compatible with (rather than what it IS compatible with).
You'd think they would put the 'warning list' in red though...
Looking forward to getting home for the weekend and going for a long drive, roof down!
