Hi experts!


In my 2002XKR I have lots of electrical things to fix and that is not realy a problem. The other day I stripped out some lojack system that just went on beeping. Some nice hardware though, with satelite tracking and a SIM card. Probably outdated and useless 'caus I cant find any info on it on the net.


The thing I want to ask you is that when I turn the key to the second stage, "drive mode" with the Engine off I can hear a fan start running on the passenger side. (stearingwheel is on the left). When I switch the key off, it runs a few seconds then the fan is turned off.


Before ripping the right half of the car apart, does anyone know what this fan is for, should it be there or is it something someone has put in there?
This care has gone thru Three countries and a lot of owners.


Ofcourse I have turned off the climate control system using the knob.


Any suggestions welcome.

 

There is a cooling fan under the ECM, but I don't recall it running after the ignition is off.

 

RJ237 is right...you're hearing the cooling fan for the ECM.

That sound is probably your intercooler coolant pump running. Get a flashlight (torch) and look under the air filter box and you'll see the pump.

 

I wasn't sure if there was an electric pump for the intercooler, not being familiar with the XKR, but that sounds like the right answer.

 

I remember when I popped open my box and saw the fan in there. I thought that was pretty smart. Especially considering how hot it can get under the hood.
