Default Nav System Opinion

I've read a number of articles that say to avoid to navigation system. They mention that Jaguar doesn't support the updates and you loose three very nice gages.

I'd like some opinions as I'm in the market for a 03-06 coupe and most seem to come with the nav.

Any other options I should or shouldn't get?

Thanks and I'm really enjoying (and learning) from this forum.

But what about that nice clock?!? Seriously, if you don't use the nav for daily, or even weekly driving around town, you won't care wether or not you have it. I still found, though outdated maps, that it helps on the long road trips where highways are involved. It's better than nothing, and I personally don't like those three gauges that take its place.

You can install a different nav system and use the screen that's there, i've done it. Dont let that option sway you one way or the other, it won't affect the asking price (or it shouldn't). You need to consider whether or not you want an 'R' or not. [sm=smiley2.gif]

Thanks for the Nav information. I'm currently looking at an "R" on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180285493502

I've read that the SC can have problems. Is this engine something that I should avoid?

Thanks for help in my learning about XK8's.

best,

Jim

Ebay frequently looks like good deals on cars, but I would be nervous to buy something like that sight unseen. I started looking at local pre-owned XK8 but was captivated by the supercharged R. I swore I would never own a turbo again, but the supercharger is fundamentally different and, I believe, much more reliable over the long haul versus a turbo. A bunch of local mechanics I talked with had nothing bad to say about the supercharger so I went for it.

Thanks for your thoughts on the SC. I too do not want to purchase a car without looking at it.

I may fly back to look at one that fits the bill.
