Default Need to pressure test cooling. Do I need a threaded fitting?

My 1998 XK8 provides a threaded connection for the coolant cap.

I don't know the proper term for the standard automobile radiator's pressure cap fitting, let's call it "standard radiator connection"or "SRC" for this discussion.

My "Stant" brand radiator pressure tester only has the SRC fitting. It does have a thick washer for the 1 inch deep resivior neck, so that's covered.

Unfortunately Autozone's borrow for free pressure tester only has the SRC too.

I've got to figure out how to attach a pressure tester.

Here's my question:

Do I need to find a threaded conector attachment to properly attach the pressure tester?

Or

Is there a way to thread the pressure tester's SRC onto the exposed threads of the coolant resiviour and get an air tight seal without damaging the Jaguar's plastic threads?

Yes, I realize how crazy that sounds (forcing the SRC onto standard threads), but I'm at a loss. Does a female thread to male SRC adapter exist? If so where would I get one?

Who knows, maybe there is another way to connect it that I haven't thought of.

I'd sure appreciate your advice and direction. I want to track down a very small slow leak before a long road trip that's coming up.

By the way -what is the proper name for the SRC connection?

Thanks, this will help me save a lot of time. I appreciate it.
John

Having 'rented' pressure test sets from Advance, AutoZone and ORilley I can assure you that none have a correct connector for the Jaguar. All have an universal device which works just fine. Those that screw on the reservoir don't seal the vent to the atmosphere overflow tank.

Rent one, use the ice cream cone universal fitting and pump away.

Test point thanks for such quick response. How does the fitting attach? I just can't picture how it will create an air tight seal, does it "use" the threads?

It is shaped like a stubby ice cream cone and is inserted into the mouth of the tank without touching the cap threads. A device on the top expands it securing it to the tank mouth. Stop by an auto parts store and ask them to show you the rental kit.

Something like the pointy thing in the middle.

Harbor Freight has one that works, it's the green adapter.

I think it's always on sale for $90. I needed it three times so far. The first year I had the jag my wife called it the Colander.

I bought one a couple of years ago. Not a lot of use, like the fuel pressure tester, but nice to have on hand.

The biggest complaint I have is that it doesn't have a shut off valve, so the pressure slowly bleeds off through the pump. I would like to be able to pressurize the system and see if it holds for an hour or two.
