My question, Does anyone know the wiring colors and conductivity from factory head unit to factory amp in a 2000 XK8 conv.? Wanting to replace factory amp with aftermarket but retain factory head unit.

I assume you have the premium audio because the standard audio does not have an external amp.

These amps use the Alpine proprietary AI-NET for control, so you cannot easily remove it and replace it with aftermarket and keep the headunit.

Is yours broken are are you looking to upgrade?

 

My '07xk is supposed to have premium sound but it sounds no better than a rental car. How can I tell if I have premium sound?

 

Do you have satnav?
If not, it is very easy to replace the external amp.

 

Does the presents of sat/nav mean you have premium sound?

 

Yes I have the Alpine system, just wanting to replace the factory amp with aftermarket along with the speakers in the car. Has Nav/Sat with monitor that I will still utilize. Just trying to get a much louder and better sound than factory without replacing the head unit.
