Is there a resident 2000 XKR (Ford) airbag specialist in this group ? If so, can we wake him or her up? Desperately need some help. Thanks

Thanks. First question: What can trigger the flash code 12 and blow the fuse? Second question: replacing the fuse now causes the flash code to pull a 52. I can't find any serious info on this. I don't have a passenger seat belt buckle switch. This is a simple old style Ford system with no sensors for the passenger airbag. Build date of 11/99. Thoughts???

 

That info was for the later cars I was looking for something for your MY, no luck!

 

The SRS ECU contains an electronic solid state switch that is activated by the computer as a failsafe to intentionally blow the fuse and disarm the system if it detects a fault that it deems serious enough to cause spurious airbag deployment.

There is a warning in the service instructions NOT to replace the fuse until a full diagnostic of the system can be performed. For safety sake, you should remove the fuse immediately and get the system professionally evaluated with a diagnostic system.

I am a big DIY advocate..but I would not touch this one.

Unless the fault is removed the light will keep coming back. Check the passenger seat buckle connector and make sure it is clean, this will involve removing the seat, an hours job. While you are under there, check the wiring loom for any possible short circuits or pinched wiring.
Also you could try some electrical cleaner spray in the buckle itself.
To be sure, hard reset the car and try again.

Do you know if the document was written from a left or right hand drive point of view as there are lots of references to driver side or passenger side?

 

From the point of the codes I believe it is applicable to both. The guys in the US of A use the same document and read as is.

I did some more digging and found that 5-2 code on that MY may refer to low battery voltage or complete loss thereof.

I have already responded to that post with the additional info.

The SRS sheet you are quoting from is for MY 2003 onwards and is also the one I gave my original info from.

 

Interesting, I have had an very occasional 5-2 flash for more than a year now and planned to pull out my drivers seat, looks like I would have been pulling out the wrong one, so my laziness has paid off.

I will try wiggling both sides tonight to confirm which one causes the code.

Although mine is a 2002 car it is a MY2003 so the form should apply.

 

If you have a buckle switch on the passenger side then the code sheet will apply.
I had the same problem on mine when I first got it. Had to be replaced in the end @£59 from Jag dealer.

You could try a squirt of WD40 but if that doesn't work, it will need replacing.
