Default Never assume....

Never assume, always check. When I bought the Jag a few years ago, I checked all the wheel change kit was present but didn't check the fit of the socket. The previous owner put different wheels on and the socket was too large to fit through the wheel nut holes.

Luckily, my son was only 3 miles away and brought the correct size socket.

Checked the tyre today, expecting to find a nail.
Luckily we were only doing around 50 mph when the puncture happened. Wife and 2 dogs onboard as well. Could have been a LOT worse.

What is the age of the tyres on the vehicle? Even if they have a good portion of tread remaining, after five years, they should be replaced to avoid such failures.

On the sidewall of each tyre is a lettering beginning with DOT and then four numbers representing the week and year the tyre was manufactured. For instance: DOT 2614 means the tyre was manufactured the twenty-sixth week of 2014.

SPARE TYRE PRESSURE - another item to check

With my last three Jaguars having the Space Saver spare wheel, I found they would not retain the recommended 60 psi between service intervals. Over a three month period they regularly dropped to 55 psi or less.

At least they had spare wheels. My current XK has the Tyre Repair Kit. Really looking forward to having to rely on that!

Thanks for the info on how to tell how old tyres are.. My tyres have 1509 on them so 9 years old!
Booked the car in for this Tuesday to get a full set of Dunlop SP Sport Maxx.
Thanks again, that's some handy knowledge to have for the future.
