New charger socket required.
Dear All.
I've got a 2001 XK8 and the cigarette lighter socket doesn't work. No power to it. I've pulled the 20amp fuse 14 in the passenger side fuse box (as that's what it seemed to be off the diagrams I could find, but the fuse is OK.
Before I start dismantling the console to try and get at the back of it to see if its a loose connection etc, I wondered if I can just remove the jaguar handset phone that the car is fitted with (it switches on but there is no SIM in it) and use the power supply to that to put a 12v charger socket in the console instead? Just need to be able to power my iPhone for general use and sat nav requirements. One thing that worries me is that maybe Jag owners should use paper maps and not new fangled sat navs?
Any suggestions on things I should check with the cigar (I love the fact the drivers handbook knows Jag drivers smoke cigars not cigarettes!!) lighter or which are the live and return to the phone power?
Cheers
Steve

dumb question on my part but you did turned key to start position to energize lighter? also did you check fuse with a meter just to be sure? did you check for 12v at the fuse holder, could be just a loose connection at the lighter I think you should get 12v between the fuse and the body of the lighter if not bad ground?

You need the yellow 14 pin connector under the armrest:-
+12 v bat pin 4 brown with red stripe wire
+12v ign pin 5 green wire
I must have heard at least half a dozen times when the car was serviced that the tech simply forgot to plug the charger socket back in. It is often the simple answer.
Best plan is to undo the console and check.
