Default New (to me) '99 XK8

After lurking, lusting and shopping for an XJ8, and coming close a few times, I found this lovely XK8 specimen that I just couldn't pass up. I'll post pics after the sun comes up, but it's a 2 owner with 56k, and pretty full service history. First stop will be a shop to update the secondary timing chain guide. The PO said his tech did check it recently and there were no hairline cracks, but I want the peace of mind with the updated metal ones.

I'm not a huge fan of the OEM wheels for this year. I was searching the gallery and the 7 spoke wheels on user trautobro's car look great. Does anyone know if those wheels are also 17"ers? I don't want to go any larger than that. Or other sources for OEM wheels?

I'll spending a lot of time in the FAQ section - there's a ton of great info there.

Thanks!
David

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new toy. My favourite OE wheels are the 19" Atlas, but they're pretty rare.

Here are a couple pics. Thought I was a hotshot, and cleaned the TB and MAF with the great directions on here. Now my CEL is on. I'm scared to disconnect the negative terminal to (hopefully) clear the code since I don't yet have the radio code. With all the books that came with car, the code wasn't there...

Georgous car!

US cars do not need the radio code, you can disconnect the battery.

Double check all your connectors and intake hoses are secure. Also drive the car a bit a see if the CEL clears on its own.

I looked up trautobro's car and his wheels are Centaurs. They are 18x8 and 18x9 staggered fitment.

They are similar to the fluted seven spoke "Sport" wheels that I have:

I highly recommend 18s. They don't ride rough and fill the wheel wells so much nicer.

If you are stubborn and must stay 17" the only decent OEM options are
Gemini:

Or Lamina:

Keith and WhiteXKR, thanks so much. I'll try disconnecting the battery. The car's running great other than the CEL.

Those Gemini's look great. One thing at a time though...

I have a 2004 american car, it came with radio codes. I never disconnected the battery, so I do not know if they are required.

So I cleaned the MAF again, and now I'm running in Restricted Performance mode. Really made a mess of it...

I am also looking for 17" OEM wheels for my 97. I like the Gemini. The 2003 Jag accessories catalog I looked at says they were standard on the XK8 coupe in Canada & Mexico. On one web site (wheelsrims.net) I have to search for 2003 XK8. They don't list the bolt pattern so I am going to contact them for more info.

My owner manuals say I need a radio code if the battery is disconnected. I got my radio code from radio-code.com for $35 US. I have not tried it yet.

My owner's manual say I need a code also, but I've had the battery pulled several times, last year for several months, and I have never needed to enter a code (which is good, since I don't have one)

I think we can all agree that the Apollo wheels are the best looking wheels by far.

Seriously. We can all agree to that. Right?

My favorite are the Sepangs. My least favorite are the Detroits, I think.

That's the one!

Paul Pavlik, I really like your Double Five's. Are they OEM? Oh, and I used to live in Washington Heights!

Seriously, I should have this car taken away from me. The Restricted Performance light came on because I neglected to plug the MAF back in after cleaning it. D'oh!! The CEL is still on though. And I don't need a radio code either.

If that is the only issue, the CEL may clear itself after a few drive cycles.
