Default New Poly Mounts and Eating Crow

Just completed the poly mounts install with cjd777 new design. We also used the KYB Bellows & Bump Stops Kits. They went together w/o any problem and look great. Haven't taken any measurements, but will use the Standard wheel arch to center hub method as in past. We previously used the R&R method of dropping the shock over & out w/o removing the upper Wishbone. This DID NOT WORK this time. We tried any number of ways but no success. We advocated the alternate way but had to "Eat Crow". Apology to anyone who tried and failed also. We tried many angles and different positions to extricate the shock assembly prior to The Feast. ALL our XK8 friends, have a meal on us.

Unless I’m mistaken the workshop manual says the bump stop is at the bottom of the gatter with the wider Top attached to the bottom of the mount. Did I get this wrong?

Keep us posted, Kelly. I hope Wayne's new front shock mount design turns out to be a champion for you....

Someone did notice We deviated from the parts diagram. On our first install of the Welsh mounts, we did the bellows and stops as pictured in the parts diagram. After some research and discussion on this forum, we were determined to try the alternate method. From diagram, it appears the large end fits into the bottom of the mounts and the small end faces down . Wayne' modified mounts will provide a chance to confirm our suspicions. This is similar and seems more effective. Bellows protects the shaft on shocks and bumps stops prevents suspension from bottoming out. We will have the experience of trying both ways. Have a Great Day.

Completed the install and dropped the car bock on the floor. Looks good and moved if fore & aft to let the tires stabilize into neural position. Went for a 10 miles this am after siting all night. Road conditions vary with rough patches an uneven roadways. was able to safely swerve right to left to load the mounts, etc. Pulled back into the garage and measured the wheel center to top of arch at 15 3/8+ inch. Car drive well and handles well also. cjd777
(Wayne's) mount seem to be up to the task for replacement of OEM units. Time will tell on the longevity. May add another 1/4" of space at top to achieve the 15 5/8" for proper camber.

Thank you Kelly for letting us know how the car reacts to this system.
Let's see if you are going to be happy with the height. I'll send the spacer I made out to you tomorrow, that way you will have it on hand if that's what you need to do.
It will be the open hole one, so should install by just dropping the strut down enough to get it between the inner fender and the top of the bell.
I'm going to add some comments on the other thread after we get a few more miles on your car.
You didn't say if you took some measurements before install.
Again, thanks for the feedback.

Yes, we cked the left side with the undamaged Welsh Mount. The baseline measurement was 15 5/8" and Right was lower, but the Right side was was heavily damaged. It appears the 1/4" spacer would restore back to the prior height. Brief ride this AM and was favorably impressed with the solid, tight feel and ride. Thanks for you efforts.
