Default New rag top?

I am having serious problems with the roof of my 2002 convertible.

I tried to carry out some routine refreshing. I used Auto Glym cleaner followed by Renovo Reviver and there was an unfortunate reaction. The roof is now a crispy black mess and nothing I put on it will shift it.I've tried turps, meths, white spirit, petrol, thinners - you name it. Mothing will shift it. It's absolutely awful. I have tried taking advice from Renovo and various forums but no joy.

I have completely given up on it now and the only answer seems to be a new roof. I have seen them on ebay for what seems to be a very reasonable £233 (plus £50 shipping from USA to UK).

Has anyone any experience of aftermarket roofs?

Naturally I would need to get someone to fit it. Is this a big job? How long would it take?

I thought while I was at it I could install a new headliner too. Again - any experience of this?

Many thanks.

Default Good one for sale in lancashire..

Bought a rear bumper from these last week and they have a damaged convertible with what looked like a mint roof..Give them a ring as they were very inexpensive for the rear bumper..Hope this helps..

Just curios, is you roof cloth or vinyl? What would turn the material crispy? If it's cloth I would think a cleaner of some type would straighten it out. Vinyl on the other hand i could see it having a chemical reaction and getting hard or brittle. most jags have the cloth roofs and i would think vinyl would have been a after market top.

Thanks both. I really don't fancy an ld roof to be honest.

It is cloth. What appears to have happened is there was some reaction between the Renovo Reviver and something that was already in the roof - even though I thought it was completely cleaned.

Really - a bot of advice to anyone reading - be very careful about what you put on your roof unless you are certain of its history. I am in a terrible mess and can see no way out apart from spending a lot of money on a complete replacement.

Anyone got any experience of replacing roofs?
