New to XK8
Hello All,
After selling my STR, took a sabbatical from Jaguar Forum. Bought and sold a Sunbeam Alpine, an E Type and bought a Tiger and a Cadillac CTS ( for the wife you know).
Now looking at XK8 rather than a C2 or C3 Corvette. Have owned four Lotus Elans and Europas. Her six Miatas include the current MazdaSpeed Miata. The C2 and C3 Corvettes were not very nifty sports cars by comparison, maybe better as boulevard cruisers.
My main Jag mechanic is out of town but warns me about the Nicasil issue. What else should I be looking for in a very clean 4.0. Can I expect the frequent "Performance Restriction" I had on the STR? Care to recommend a specific year..I am fond of the analog instrument panel and indifferent to the navigation system and most of the electronics.
Is it possible to have a sound, reliable XK8 for frequent weekend and club drives?

Welcome back.
Any car still running well is past Nikasil concerns. Advice is always to buy the latest and best car you choose to spend your money on. Personally, I searched for an '02 model year due to best value as the '03 up demand what I considered a premium over the earlier cars. But then the '03 up MY's addressed lots of weaknesses in the earlier cars. The 'sticky' above has lots of information on issues to be aware of.

I am selling my 03 with close to 99k on it. Needs most of the front end bushings replaced but is drivable I do most everyday right now, otherwise is very clean.

Learn the maint history, if many of the pre 03 items have been addressed (sec tensioners, suspension parts esp front, coolant tower) then you'll be in better shape. While the post 03 and on have addressed some of the mechanical concerns the suspension ones are still present, as well as their own set of issues (fuels inj rails and trans)

Many thanks for the guidance. Was captured by a local 96 BRG coupe, 54 k miles but it might have been a bit hasty. Any very clean well maintained examples of 03 or newer would be appreciated. I may not have another restoration left in me so I spend what is necessary to buy the best of the available examples.
Have a fun driving season.
