Default Newbie asking about 2006 XKR 20" wheels

Hello all.... newbie here.

I'm wanting to upgrade my 2006 XKR with a few items. Starting with wheels/tires. I've found a set of 20" OEM wheels with OEM Pirelli tires, (on eBay, of course). Curious to hear thoughts on this specific up-grade or what others might be running as 20" tires/wheels.

I think this is a great forum, I'll have lots of questions.

My XKR runs 20" Sepangs with Pirelli tyres. Coming from a Golf GTI which had 18" wheels and a very firm ride, I was slightly apprehensive about the 20" wheels on the Jaguar, but the ride is surprisingly compliant. Of course, I haven't tried an XK with 17" or 18" rims, but I have no complaints with the 20" ride quality.

Just be super careful as there isn't much protection for the rims when the tires are that low profile. I found our the hard way when I developed a vibration on my car (not the Jag) and I ended up having 2 of my rims bent and I am very careful with my cars. Just something to think about beside the ridiculous cost of 20" tires at replacement time.

Hey Mike. Didn't your 2006 XKR already come with 20" wheels or do you have the 19's? I assume you are talking about the Detroit set with Pirelli's on ebay? When I was shopping around for my car I saw several with the Detroits and they looked good, although I ended up with a 2005 XKR that came with the 20" Montreals. While these look great, I would have almost preferred them in 18" or 19" size as the car seems to sit too high with the 20" wheels.

On an entirely different topic, the ebay ad also notes:

Additionally included is unused OEM extended oil dipstick specified for XKR's with 20" wheels.

I had never heard of that before. Does anyone know what that is all about?

Doug
If anybody finds out about the oil dipstick I would be interested in that too. I've never heard of it.
Mike
My car came with the Detroit wheels I think the XK's look great with these wheels. That is a good price for them considering the price individually if you can find them.

Regarding the dip stick he's offering... I asked the same question.

Was told because of the 20" factory wheel package the car is expected to be cornered harder. So the dip stick scale is "adjusted" to allow slightly more oil in the crankcase to prevent the sump from being low during hard conering.

Never heard that before.... maybe someone can confirm or deny.

Default Dip stick

I have the adjusted dipstick and the 20" wheels. The reason mentioned above is true.
If you can get the wheels and tires for less then $3k go for it.The tires alone go for over $2k new.I checked out the listing and if it all is correct as listed I would jump on it.

I got the Detroits & I feel they are simply bad ***. I saw them in the James bond movie when the green XKR Conv was after Peirce in the Vanquish. They do tend to keep you alert while parking & such. I can't say I notice a difference in ride quality as I have never experienced others. The Sepangs are sweet as well though I prefer them on the XJR. It sure does feel cool skating around in stock 20's! (especially the Detroits IMO)

Default 20 inch wheels

I have them and they look great. the rims shine and are quite pronounced due to the low profile tires.

Be careful with potholes and tough road conditions as the rims get eaten up pretty quickly for the same reason

Get them you will really appreciate the difference

Good luck

Well, I bought the set on eBay.... let the fun begin !!! Supercharger pully is probably next, a bit cheaper than the wheels/tires.

The wheels will put a smile on your face everytime you look at your Jag, it will be worth the price.
The pulley is never seen and will only add a small increase in performance when you step on it,forget the pulley and modify your exhaust. It may not go faster, but it will sound faster.
Post pictures of the new wheels when you get them on your car.
