Depends. If it really is an oxygen sensor and you do it yourself, $50. At the dealer, $450. A sensor failure at 100k is not unheard of. As mentioned it may not be the sensor, or if failed, an up stream fuel problem might have caused the failure and take out the new one. Or it might be a simple electrical connection problem, or the ECM at $lots.

See how simple this is.

Bottom line: It can be fixed and potentially inexpensively but that is hard to determine remotely.

Ask the owner to fix it or knock $500 off the best price and buy the car. You obviously want to buy the car.

... and remember the tensioners and transmission service you should have worked on soon after, as well into the transaction. Most informed buyers won't touch this high mileage car.

. . . but I bought a '00 XK8 and after spending $1000 and 6 months of hobby labor, a mere pittance in Jaguarville, had a very good car (that a local farmer killed with a 19 year old Jeep).

Will this be a hobby car or a daily driver? Hobby? Go for it. Transportation? Rethink your 'need for speed'(Top Gun).

I have owned several Mercedes, and had great service out of all! But none had more than 50,000 miles on them.
I can't understand why Jaguar would build a car with so many problems. And sell them for $80,000.00. I always thought they had a good rep. But this is the first time I've thought about buying one.
I still can't understand why anyone would put PLASTIC PARTS inside an engine!!!!!!!
I still love the way they look(just like my x-wife). But I had to get rid of her for the same reason...HIGH MAINTENACE COST!!!!!!!!!!!

roy, funny one.

At least these cars depreciate quickly. And, as prices reflect, the more reliable model years (2003+) maintain higher resale values. Its all relative.
