Smile Not a moment too soon!

Good Afternoon Gents!

It IS, in fact, A VERY good afternoon. Just got finished changing the secondary cam chain tensioners @ 61,000 miles. Job went very smoothly, thanks to several different "How tos" in the threads and FAQ section. Changed the plugs at the same time, checked that the thermostat housing and water pump are updated (they were), and re-used the gaskets, as I liked them better than the new (Victor) ones I ordered. Total for parts was about $350.00 CDN. A bit steeper than you guys in the US of A, but I'm thinking I just saved me an engine.

Scott, I believe you did. Those look as bad as any I've ever seen posted (that were still breathing).

Good timing on your part (hey, there's a double entendre in there!)

Did you use the "zip-tie" method? I did mine last month. Piece of cake using the zip-tie method of lifting the cam. I cannot see why anybody would not do it this way.

I did XKR, but I used 'Mechanic's Wire instead of tie-wraps. The ones I had looked a bit flimsy; bigger ones would have been fine though. The right side cam stopped in such a position that there was very little valve loading on it, and it lifted out easily. The left bank was very anxious to pop up as it had stopped with both rear lobes fully depressing their valves, so I rolled it a bit with a power bar on the crank pulley nut, and it lifted out cleanly as well. The cam cap bolts and tensioner bolts that came out seemed to have a lot more than the 10nm of torque on them than the specs, but we went by the book upon re-assembly. I may be imagining it, but I think I was beginning to get a touch of the 'death rattle' on start-up, as it seems to start more silently than before. I know I feel better.
