O2 codes, check engine.
Hi all,
Just as I thought 'it was safe to go back into the water' after fitting a rebuilt ECU and having the car behave itself for 1000km last night the yellow check engine lamp came on.
The code scanner revealed the following issues
0137 and 0140
0157 and 0160
All codes relate to low voltage on the O2 sensors.
As it is on both banks it is obviously a more deeply rooted problem
Has anyone got any ideas on where to start.
Regards
Alan

Alan,
Is this the 1996 X300 shown in your 'garage' or the 1997 XK8 in your user Profile?
Vehicle details in a Signature like test point's and mine make it a lot easier for everyone to respond to questions with accurate information.

Hi
Thanks for the interest
It is the XK8 giving trouble
Today I cleared the codes, the 'check engine' light remained unillumiated. The car went perfectly with no sign of trouble. It's got me beat.
Or should I say perfectly except for a main beam headlight problem which I will write about on another post

Hi Graham
Please explain what CEL is
The fact that I don't know may indicate the scanney doesn't have it.
I have a headlight problem with all lights very much focused down (manually adjusted into highest position) and the l/h main beam not working. I have checked bulb its ok, checked fuse ok but doesn't seem to be getting power nor can I find earth, quite a mystery however I think when I hit a bump the light might flash on momentarily. Obvious conclusion is that it is a bad earth. If so it could be related to engine code issues. Does anyone know where the earth point is for the L/H headlight
Thanks
Al

Al,
The Check Engine warning:

CEL = Check Engine Light
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp
Both terms mean the same thing. Jaguar use CEL in owner documentation and MIL in technical documents!
With some faults, the CEL will go out once the fault it fixed. With others, it has to be turned off.
For the lighting issue, it would be best to start a new thread. The lights are controlled though the BPM (Body Processor Module) and have leveling motors so it could get a lot more complicated than a bad earth.

Thanks Graham, the scanner does have a CEL cancel function
I do or course suspect that the headlight problem would be more complex than first appearances suggest. It does seem surprising that it manifests only on one globe, I will start a new post.
This dam car hovers on the edge of brilliance only to ****** defeat over the jaws of victory.
Such beauty often ruined by excessive complexity and poor execution (cam tensioners and plastic engine parts to point.
I will persist
