Default Odd Beep/97 xk8

2nd time in the last 2 months or so from the speaker that you hear the blinker sound from I have heard a faint 3 or 4 diff sounding pitch tone from that blinker speaker (or what ever you call it). I show no error messages from the display panel, it has done in both times while driving the street. Nothing was being BUMPED, not turning, not stopping, not hammering the gas pedal. Seems to just be a random sound.

I remember back in the day you use to have to but a filter, noise reduction device between the coil and plugs so you could not hear your engine thru your tape deck. The good ole days.

Forget that , I believe the solinoid that operates the blinker produces the blinker sound as well. It may be loose in its holder. Turn on the flashers so you can locate the solinoid by sound. Then you should be able to reach into the dash and just hold the solinoid and see it it changes pitch.

Something to try.

Could be you just need to replace the blinker solinoid noise thingy.

I know the sound, and it is real annoying.

it's not the same tone as the blinker tone but it is coming from the same speaker or what ever it comes from. Is the blinker/flasher the only thing that comes from that sound device? When it goes off (not using signals at that moment) it is like a 2 or 3 diff tone sequence then it goes away.
Maybe you are on to something. Maybe that silenoid is acting funky. SINGING TO ME!

it sorta sounds like the tone you get when you hit the gear shifter when its in park (something like that) and it makes that beeping noise at you. It is a similar beep but not as loud, much softer.

I thought I knew the tone, but since you said it is the same tone as when you hit the gear selector, that is a totally different tone than the blinker, at least it is on the 1999 XK8 I have. When I hit my selector it sounds more like dat, dat, dat. Three quick sounds.

My flasher and blinkers have more of a click clock. Meaning the first sound is higher than the following sound. Totally different than when you hit the gear selector.

But I would still see if grabbing that solinoid affects the sound in any way.

Does this happen randomly or just at start up?

it sounds more like the gear shifter noise which mine does the same as yours but it is not as loud, fainter sounding and the tone is diff then the gear shifter tone. It is not the blinker tone/sequence either. It has done it randomly 2x since we got it a 14 months ago. totally random, we were pulling into a parking lot about to park, it did it, I was touching nothing but the brakes and steering.

My car is at the dealer when I pick it up I'll ask about ramdom sounds.

Does your car ever hesitate from going into gear from park to reverse or from park to drive?

Reason I ask I have mine in for a new cable because it is doing this. I wonder if the warning tones and cable could be related?

When I go to pickup mine from the dealer here is what I'm going to ask them.
Is there any reason I would hear an intermitent tones or series of tones while driving. They just come and go for no apparent reason. No warning lights no performance issues.

No luck. The dealer service writer was not aware of any tonal warnings that would not be followed up with something showing up on the display.
The tech that just worked on my care was in agreement. This is for a 99 XK8.

it did it again tonight. I was pulling in to park, AGAIN like the last time. I think I may have been in park this time and it went off again. I was not touching anything, hands on wheel, maybe one hand on shifter putting into park. This really ODD. I just don't get it.

Are you missing any watches that might have an alarm. That is of course assuming that the tones you hear are at the same time of the day.

Does it seem to be going off when you are braking?

I just went to your album and noticed yuo have a convertable. Does your convertable top have any tone associated with it. Like a locking tone when the latches are engaged or does it tone when they are not engaged?

Does it make a tone if your e-brake is not on to release the top?

Is your e-brake fully disengaged?

Just throwing out ideas?

It sounds like the switch that lets you know when you're out of park or neutral w/ the key in the ignition... i'll see if I can upload a video clip w/ sound and see if it sounds like that. I'll do that tonight.

That recorded sound is not what I hear. That is the sound I hear when I hit the gear shifter when in park. the sound I hear is a lighter, not as pronounced sound (beeps).
