Is it a beep or a chime?

 

i'd say more a chime then a beep. All I can say is that it sounds similar to the sound you get when you hit the gear level when it is in park. just a diff pitch/tone and is fainter in sound.

 

When you open and close the roof do you hear a chime? And if so does the chime sound like it? And the last if so have you cycled the roof to see if it goes away?

 

it is not a roof notification sound, top has not been down in some time. It sounds like the gear shifter noise, just a diff tone and not as loud.

 

I recall another post when the car had an intermittent no start https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=28185 Although the post is about not starting it also had information on the Neutral switch and I think you have an adjustment problem with that switch. I know nothing about the switch other than it is there. I would consider checking it.

 

it did it again today, driving along, about 3 min into drive. not hitting brakes, not turning on blinker, heat on, drivers heated seat on, radio on, got the three tones again. It is three light/faint tones from where the blinkers make their sound or from somewhere in that geberal region. It IS NOT the same sound as when you pull on gear shifter when car is in park with keys out and you gt that beeping sound that keeps beeping until you let off shifter. This is 3 tones in quick succession. Almost sounds like a bird chirping. Soft fluttering sound amost. Only thing that is of note is that I am real low on gas, in the red, don't know if that was the case the other times though. It has only done this once while driving when it has happened. Never 2x on a trip of any length. Now it seems to do it when stopping or just moving along. again all gauges are reading fine, not warning from display system. Really odd.

 

Take this as a guess. I wonder if it could be something such as a door latch going south or even a seatbelt warning that is failing. Perhaps the car thinks a door is open or a seatbelt isn't buckled. Just guessing, because like you, I have no real clue what this could be.

 

The only times I know of a tone is when;

The shifter is in gear and the key is removed
Seat belt warning
Roof operation full open and full closed
Key left in the car
Emergency brake is on when moving the car
Blinker clicking
Locking and un-locking the car
Door ajar

Add to my list if I missed anything.

You mentioned 3 min into the driveway. Is it rough or flat surface?
