Boggles my mind.... I think I have the correct dipstick, got it to seat all the way, oil change people drained some oil today so I'm just under "MAX" on the dipstick. (Amsoil website says 7.4 qts, then check level and top off if necessary...). I think I'm good to go at this point. Thanks

If you are in doubt, measure the length of the metal blade, from the tip to the base as it meets the plastic. I am sure someone can confirm this length later.
I think I'm OK.....dipstick is seated (had to push it a little), some oil has been drained, so not I'm just under "MAX" so I'm good to go. Thanks

Before I had the '99 Miata I had one of the first 1990s. A few years later I installed a Sebring supercharger developed and sold by Downing Racing here in Atlanta. It was the first one in town. It was an Eaton supercharger adapted to the Miata. Great power boost. No loss of reliability. It was a great car I sold to a friend in 1999 when I bought the "new" one. I sold the 1999 to a different friend in 2010 when I bought the 2006 Jag. I regretted the sale. A year and a half ago my friend told me they were thinking of selling the Miata. Said they almost never used it. Put only 2,000 miles on it in their five years of ownership. Kept it garaged. It was still perfect. I bought it back. I don't think I'll sell it again.

Jack, oil change people drained it foe me, no charge. I think I've got the correct dipstick and now it's measuring just a tad under the "MAX" level after driving the car. I'm all set.

Thanks

I believe I lost my first engine at 130,000 miles because one of the POs was overfilling the oil which foamed and destroyed all the bearings. The failure was quite interesting, but that's another story.

Because Jaguar raised our crankcase capacity by merely moving the marks on the dip stick, I am VERY cautious about over filling. 7.5 quarts after a draining and new filter puts the level just between the mid-point and Max. I never go near Max.

Default Oil Capacity

Can't seem to find a "published" consensus on the oil capacity, except the Amsoil website says 7.4, check dipstick, then top off as necessary. Right now, after the oil change shop drained some oil, I'm measuring just slightly below "MAX", so going to leave it there. The oil change shop made a note in my file to go to 7.4 qts., so that should be good in the future....

So at this point, I'm good to got; not going to mess with it anymore.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my original post. Received a LOT of good feedback

Capacity will be quite a bit bigger than the amount for a change because you can't get it all out.

Sounds like good advice why doesn't your shop just do that?
