Default opinions on charcoal vs dove interior in sunny weather

I love the look of the charcoal interior on these cars, but having never had a convertible, I'm wondering if it might be apt to getting a little too warm in the summer sun?

I have an older muscle car (a coupe) with a black vinyl interior - a bit darker than charcoal gray of course, and a different material - and one of my pet peeves about that car is how miserably hot it gets in the summertime.

Any comments or preferences?

I have the dark charcoal interior and it will burn my skin if its been sitting in direct sun for a bit. The only color I would go with besides charcoal is London Tan. I personally don't like the lite tan color leathers.

I have the charcoal interior. It kinda sucks. I love the car, but I would love it even more if I had the dove interior. h20boy's combo of platinum and dove is gorgeous. Last summer I was out west where it gets up into the 100's every day. We kept a big sheet in the back seat and when we would park we'd lean the seats forward and cover everything up with the sheet. It looked tacky, but at least we didn't get third degree burns when we returned.

I have Cashmere (Code SDZ) and I love it. It doesn't get too hot. I test drove a Black on Black and wasn't as fond of the interior, but I can't really comment on the heat since it was early spring and temps were in the 30s.

Reverend Sam, do you think it would look ridiculous to change your seat leathers, headrests, and center console to the dove color...all else being charcoal? I know the back seats would still be black, but just wondering if that's pushing the limit and into territory of 'i'd rather just sell it and get another car' line of thinking?

It really depends on where you live and how hot it gets. I live in SF Bay Area and for a month or two it'll be pure hell for me. Dark car with dark interior = bad for summer.

I love the look of black interior and wouldn't trade it though.

I have dove leather in my xkr. I like it a lot. There is no comparison to the black interior I have in my miata. Yellow car, black interior looks sharp, but in the dog days of summer it gets HOT!!! As a matter of fact, when I was shopping for my xkr, I looked at a lot of cars and if they had black interior, they didn't get a second look. The dove interior stays sooo much cooler, I highly recommend it.

I have had black on black and a white on blue cars and I do not care how hot the leather is. The white is impossible to keep looking as new, the black is easy.

Give me black anytime.

If I was going to do that I'd want to do the back seats, arm rests, carpet... One of these days I may stumble upon my dream car, a 2003 or 2004 XKR with the carnival red exterior and the beige interior.

When I was looking at XKR's in silver, they came in either black or oatmeal interiors. I had a black interior in a convertible once and vowed never to have it again. I had to keep looking, but finally found the oatmeal colour interior on the silver car. Even with the light colour interior, I will lean the seats forward if the car has to sit out for awhile.

Amen to that.

My '01 is Titanium / Oatmeal, the latter of which stays about as cool as any color will, I suppose. The other thing is, leather repeatedly getting as hot as a dark color will in a rag top ... can't be doing the leather any good.
