Output Shaft Bearings

I am now 99% sure that my search for the noise is related to the output shaft bearings. The play in the back wheels correspond to JTIS info regarding the bearings, and the noise is very much inline with what other people report as failing output shaft bearings.

I have been looking around in Jaguar Parts PDF (not in the list) and a bit of browsing, but cannot find a good source for these bearings. Does anyone know of a good (european) supplier for an output shaft bearing kit?

I can't help with a kit but I do have access to a number of European bearing and oil seal manufacturers in the (probably remote) event Jaguar used standard metric or Imperial sizes in the back axle.
If that helps send me details.

Would for sure be nice, the part number for the bearing is JLM20337, and it looks to be pretty expensive - 200 EUR each. Sounds like a lot for this kind of bearing?

If you can get me dimensions + type (ball/roller/taper roller etc) I'll get you a price.
You can get one hell of a bearing for €200 !
Note - I'm not selling these, I'll either put you in touch with a supplier who will deal with you directly or order it for you + you pay cost + P+P

Indeed, 200 euro sounds overkill!

I'll see if I can locate the dimensions somewhere. Some googling does not reveal too much, however. Perhaps someone in our forums has a clue? Very friendly of you to help out

Looks like the Timken TMLM503349A could be a replacement. At $18, sounds scaringly cheap compared to the OEM part. Should I be scared?

If that's the correct cross-over part number the price sounds similar to what I would pay on this side of the pond.

If you get a genuine Timken it will be as good as the original.
Since you've got a price I imagine you don't need me to get it for you.
PLEASE post the result with the part number - hopefully a moderator will put it in the FAQ section for others to use.

There are 2 axle bearings that hold the diff in the housing, with part JLM20336 (please check though), but for these you need to take out the diff itself.

The 2 other ones (differential shaft bearings) which I think you are looking for and that can be changed insitu (and could cause end play for instance), are JLM20337, and much more expensive even.

The timken you mentioned look like the JLM20336.

Yes, I believe these are the ones I need. The noise is similar to what other peope report, and I have a rear wheel play 12-6 of 3-4mm.

If anyone has changed their output shaft bearings, or have measurements or bearing numbers of the original ones, it would be very helpful. Right now it is a bit of a stab in the dark finding the correct part.

To me, it looks like these should be the correct part numbers:

Inner bearing: Timken SET45 = OEM JLM20336
Outer bearing: Timken LM503349A = OEM JLM20337

Very likely the original bearing will be Timken. Here's a link to the Timken OnLine Parts Catalogue:

They are showing 25523 for the diff bearing. This checks with Autozone and Summit Racing lookups for the 2002 XKR.

My XKR is actually MY 2003, but delivered in 2002. Perhaps I should change my signature to say 2003...

The 25523 is just the race however, not the bearing itself. AFAIK the LM503349A should be the bearing corresponding to this race.

They also list the LM503349A as a wheel bearing however. Are the wheel and outer diff bearings the same???

The inners (JLM20336) are very different from the shaft bearings (JLM20337), and the timken ones shown here don't look the same to the shaft bearings.

All I have with regards to measurents for the JLM20337 are an od of 72mm and a height of 29mm.

Combining your measurements with the picture, would give me:

OD 72mm
ID ~41.5mm (scaled and measured from picture)
H 29mm

Will look through some bearing part lists...

i was wondering if you fixxed your bearing issue?,and if you had the exact part numbers,distribitor,and a litle about any unexpected issues that you may have ran into ?

It turned out that it was NOT the output shaft bearings after all. It was the pinion bearing of the diff. Unfortunately there are not many mechanic's around Europe who do a pinion bearing replacement on a diff, so I ended up getting a used diff with 35k miles on it:
