over full level on dipstick
Even more than the revised dipstick for the 4.0l cars? That's pretty cool.
I think I have the wrong dip stick in my 03 XKR. I think I accidentally swapped it with the one from my 01 XK8. It shows the oil level over the full mark. Does anyone know the correct part number for the stick as I want to order another one. I did a little research and came up with part number C2C22741. They want $25.99 for a replacement, sounds a little high.

Tell me more abt the 4.0 dipstick? My garage simply puts in the required amount of oil, and tells me not to worry about the apparent overfill according to the dipstick.
Seems there's a story here?

No, I wouldn't consider that excessive oil use by any means. My 1999 AJV6 (134,000 miles) gets through about the same amount.
I never saw an Audi that didn't burn oil, and this is going back to the 100 C1.
The primary concern regarding overfill is that it might cause the oil to foam when the throws of the crankshaft begin sloshing the extra oil in the pan. Aerated or foamed oil is difficult to pump, and in extreme cases could cause oil starvation.
There is also a secondary issue regarding additional parasitic engine drag created when crank throw must 'cut through' the raised volume of oil in the crankcase as it rotates. It is minor, but still a concern.

I run at the "silverstone" levels because it is factory sanctioned.
As you should. The factory engineers must have determined that an extra liter can be added w/o concerns about windage.
