Not sure what you mean about the black tape or how you installed the rubber ring. Can you post some pictures?

I'll check in the morning, with it over heating I'm afraid I did damage to the engine
"aluminum engines are not very tolerant of overheating" if it's just my air hose not properly connected I'll count my blessings and say thanks.

Is the large rubber ring suppose to be in the hose or the carb it attaches to?

If you had overheating damage, I would venture to say you would have a different set of symptoms.

At the throttle body (the part with the butterfly like a carb), the rubber ring goes on the hose and the inner ribs fit tightly over the metal rim of the throttle body. If that is not an airtight seal, you will have problems like you describe. Then the 2 screws must be fitted to keep it in place.

I just changed my plugs again and this time put in the correect ones, hoping I would find the problem by doing it again.

I cleared my codes with my reader but found a new code besides the codes I had P0171, Po174 and P1000, I now have P1642, I cleared them but any idea what that means,

I hose was on wrong and changed it so the rubber gasket is now in the ruuber intake hose first.

If this still comes back with CE, I guess I'm down to bringing it into the shop, but I know that could be expensive.

Thanks again for all your help

Mark

P1642 is CAN Circuit Malfunction. CAN = Controller Area Network.

The others are still air leaks, did you check?

I checked all connections coming from my intake hose, had my brother-in-law stop by and check also and we can not find any loose connections or obvious leaks.

Any suggestions?

Should I put black tape over all my connections?
My brother in law thinks it's my O2 senors since the engine runs normal.

Anything at this point would be greatly appreciated, my next step is to bring into a Jaguar dealership for analysis....

Thanks again

Check your fuel pressure and/or replace your fuel filter. Low fuel pressure (bad fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regiulaor, or clogged fuel filter) can also cause lean codes.

I would not be too concerned with the P1642 unless you see other electronic malfunctions.

Thanks again for your assistance, I fiinally brought it into the shop this morning, didn't want to drive with the CE on and summer is going quickly.

I'll let you know the final outcome or if they want to do something radical.

My mechanic called me today said he did a smoke test and I have laeks either with 2 injector or manifold. Said he called Jaguar and he can't get seals for injectors and I'd have to replace (2) at 300 a shot, if thats my problem, or I'll need a manifold gasket replaced.

Any dea's is this possible?

Thanks
Mark

It sounds plausible. I am not sure he looked hard enough for injector seals though.

If he removes the intake manifold, make sure that is carefully inspected. It is also possible the overheating caused the plastic intake manifold it to crack or deform and a gasket alone might not solve the problem.

The o-rings are avaialble in the aftermarket (not from Jaguar)
2000-2002 Jaguar XK8 Fuel Injector O-Ring – Eurospare W0133-1657291 - Fuel Injector O-Ring - Eurospare

The list priice for new injectors (which you do not need) is about $220, BTW

got the car back today and so far no new CE, He reseated the injectors and did another smoke test the vacuum leak is gone.
Now I have power steering leak under the car and squels when I turn. I had the car since Nov and never a problem now coming out of the woodwork.
I guess my only option is to bring it in to a Jaguar Dealer and have a through check over.

hey thanks again for all the advice I love the car none aound here like it, so I'm not giving up that easy, may cost a few bucks but I want to keep this car for awhile.

power steering line leaks are common, some can be fixed with a section of hose and a couple of clamps, if its on the low pressure side. An indy shop, or heck...any good mechanic can fix that for you, even if you need an entire new hose (of which you'll be forced to buy a jag part...online is cheaper, try Gaudin Jaguar, a sponsor of ours)

He said it was leaking from the pump, which is above a lot of parts that would have to be removed, said he thought it was the gasket, does that make sense?
