Overheated engine salvageable?
I bought an XK8 with 50K on the clock that had an overheat situation. It got hot enough to melt the knock sensors into a puddle and drop valve seats. My question is:
Is the short block now a paperweight or can I rebuild it with a new top end? I would hate to toss a low miles short block like that. Also, are there any specific indicators that I should look out for that will confirm it is toast OR salvageable?

I have no first hand experience, nor do I want any, but from all I have read here over the years it may be salvageable.
If it's a nikasil probably not, as the liners are probably destroyed.
The heads may be seriously warped and the pistons damaged by the valves, but the block, crankshaft and rods may be okay.
