Default oxygen sensor mix up?

Hi guys and gals,
Here is a question for you all, is it possible to have the upstream o2 sensors connected to the the wrong plug? ie the A bank sensor actually connected to the B bank plug and vica versa, reason is i have a fault P1646 which is the A bank o2 sensor and also missfire on cylinder 8 on the B bank, if they were on the same bank that would sort of make sense but to be on opposite banks with no other faults is a bit confusing.
anyway will let you know what happens am having sensor changed, see if it clears both codes.

I know it's possible to mix up the sensors on an XJ8L when replacing them - don't ask!

Well,
sensor changed by local garage as had to use 4 post lift and 4ft breaker bar to remove it, the o2 code is now gone but still have miss fire on no 8 and occasionally on no 7 now, have changed plug and coil on 8 to no avail so will have to get the test meter to check the supply and ground's as per TIS, keep you in the loop,
regards

we have no idea what year your xk is, but if its a 4.0 (please put your info in your signature), remember those valve cover gaskets leak so very easily and could drip oil into the plug wells. Also, cyl 7 & 8 is right next to the oil filler neck. Another possible source of fluid into those plug wells.

Sorry for lack of info,
2000 xkr 4.0 the engine had a complete rebuild (so I was told) prior to my purchase 2 year ago and has only done about 1000 or so miles and up to now has been fine (apart from an air leak at the throttle body inlet that was a sod to find) I have not checked the trims as I can only work on it at weekends and I have not got as far as that yet, There is no oil leaking into the plug recesses so that rules a short out, next step on saturday is to see if it is actually sparking at each cylinder at least I will know if it is the ECU or something else,
TO BE CONTINUED!
O by the way I have tried to input vehicle details into signature but havn't found out how to do it, as menioned it is proberbly an age thing
