Now its back... Right after my last fuel fill-up? Sounds like oxygenated fuel to me.
Any chance this may come from low bat voltages??? mine does it at start-up.
I'm wondering why its monitoring long term fule trims at start-up?

Thanks Gus!... I was wondering about that. I am careful on replacing it... can I check it for proper venting or sealing? I did also notice the windows lost thier memory and, I also saw the DSC fault at start-up... I thought these were posible signs of low batt voltage. The car starts, idles, and runs well otherwise... I'm due for a fuel filter change soon anyway... I'll see if that helps.
I was checking-out your web site today... IT"S GREAT! THANKS for all the great info!!!... VERY WELL DONE!

The loss of the window memory is an indication of a low battery but the best way to check it is to AutoZone, Sears or PepBoys and have them check it out with the equipment they have.

The P0171 is a lean indication and most of the time you will find that you have a leak (crack) in the pipe from the air filter to the throttle body. I would check it first and see what you come up with. You can use this link to help in finding your problem http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...otos/P0171.pdf I hope this helps.

Also Thank You for your kind words about my web page.

UPDATE: the codes came back. As Gus and others have indicated, it was a leak in the breather tube from the crankshaft. I went ahead and got the new IMT valve o-rings as well. On my 02 X-type 2.5, it was a really quick repair. The o-rings were $4 each and the breather hose was about $12 all from the dealer. It's been a couple of weeks with no new lean mixture codes. If in doubt, just replace the hose and o-rings. It's too cheap not to.

A safer way to search for vacuum leaks is to use a UNLIT propane torch - just crack it open and run along suspect areas while the engine is running. Much safer than flammable liquids that pool and continue burning... 8-0

Thanks Beav, I FORGOT PROPANE... always grabed for the can of brake-clean. I'll be trying the propane method after the Holidays. I repaired the intake hose last spring.... was good all summer, may have developed a leak in the intake hose or the o rings on the norma fittings. Funny though... she does't RUN like it has any leaks at all.
