Bear with me, as I have only started looking at what this body part is; the exterior lower side panel that runs under the doors between front and back wheels…rocker panel? Appreciate corrections.
The paint on that panel, both sides, has a texture to it , not orange peel like a bad paint job, but rippling. Now a yayhoo friend of a friend, tells me that type of paint is meant to deflect road debris, rocks and such. I figure forum members can educate me.
PS… yayhoo comment was he always liked “Cougars”, when I corrected him he said he always got those two mixed up….. like I said. “yayhoo”

 

It's an anti-stonechip layer under the paint. Rocker in the US, Sill in the UK.

 

"Gravel Gard" was term we used when detailing that coating on a repair estimate. It was used on lower body panels and was a flexible type of material mixed into the paint.
