Default Painted Calipers

While waiting for the new (third time) roof hydraulic hoses to arrive, since the car was in the shop already, I had a few things done. First, I knew my front pads were getting low, probably could have squeezed a couple of thousand more miles out, but since the car was sitting I went ahead and replaced them and the rotors which would have been beyond the tolerance. And while the wheels and pads were off, I bought the Duplo Caliper Paint kit and a set of vinyl Jaguar lettering decals and did the calipers. Since the center hub is the red ground Jaguar cap, I chose to do the calipers in red with silver lettering, and the results are below.

I don't usually like red calipers but they look great with the red bodywork and red centre caps.

nice job - I like the silver lettering! Bought the kit a few weeks back and a set of white decals for my next project

I bought mine on ebay for $5.98 for the set. They're available in many colors.
Just type Jaguar caliper decals in the search line and there should be several choices.
Thanks

Isn't red the standard colour on the 4.2-S?

Go to Diylettering.com , they let you pick your font, curve the layout to go with the curve of the caliper. A VERY good product if you ask me. The application is VERY professional.

NO - both Red and Grey are listed. The grey four piston Brembo R Performance brakes were an option at an additional £1574 + VAT.

If your red ones are also four piston, my grey ones must count as the World's most expensive paint.

I think we've had this discussion before. Your silver calipers and discs look identical to mine... except they're silver, of course. Can you post a close-up of your front brakes?

Yes we did and that reminds me of the conclusion we came to.

Brembo Performance R can be either Red or Grey but there was also a Grey non-Brembo caliper available for the NA models.

(amazing how fast the discs get a coating of surface rust after cleaning the wheelarches)

My NA model has the Brembo brakes fitted as an extra cost option.

That's about as easy to understand as a mobile phone contract

I haven't got a shot w/o the wheels, but apart from the colour, my calipers look exactly the same as yours...

I'm devastated - thought it was crystal clear.

Our calipers are identical apart from the colour.

What I don't understand is why identical brakes should have different colour (and lettering) options. Or is it simply like the Aston Martin configurator where you can choose the colour of your calipers?

Reading through the sales brochures from the time, it was nothing more than a marketing ploy.

Originally red for Brembo was introduced and became a popular option but the cachet was rather reduced when many people with standard brakes started painting their calipers red!

At the very end of production with the Final Series S and Victory Models, Jaguar clearly wanted to offer customers as much as possible for the hugely inflated purchase price. As you know, almost every option was included as standard on these models with very little scope left for customer choice. Colour of the Brembo calipers was one of those few choices.

Hey Frog,
I take great delight in knowing that was meant for me. I'm surprised you "Brembo" boys don't have flashing lights in the wheel wells making sure that all non-Brembo cars are made aware of the superiority of your cars. Next time, I'll make sure that instead of the Jaguar vinyl lettering that I used, I will instead order a Brembo vinyl set. That ought to raise the hair on the back of a few necks.
