Parking Brake Trouble
"Parking Brake On" warning shows up in message center, and the brake warning light in the dash is on. The parking brake handle feels like it is not connected to anything. Cannot figure out if the brake is really on or not. Don't want to drive it before I know for sure.

Give this a try. Pull and hold the handle up as far as it will go then press and hold the button on the handle in. Pull up a tad more (or yank up) and while still holding the button in move the handle down to the floor.

Sounds like the cable has snapped

It is not a very difficult fix, the Jaguar part costs about $70 from a dealer. Took me about three hours:

If the cable is snapped the brake will release. The brake on light is reporting the position of the sensor switch. You can disable the light by unhooking the cable to the switch. But best to get the thing fixed sooner rather than later.

ZMOP, if you are worried about the parking brakes being engaged, you can try putting the car in neutral and then getting out (standing in the open driver's door) and give the car a little bit of a push. If the car rolls, the parking brake is disengaged. If it gives you lots of resistance, it is still engaged.
