Default Parts from Ebay

Hi

Anyone with positive/negative experiences with chain/tensioner kits for XK8 etc bought on eBay - like e.g. Parts from HJL...fairly cheap, but hows the quality?

Thanks in advance

Frank

I would only fit parts from a jaguar specialist.

british parts are no better. Fitted 2 front drop links and the rubber boots had perished within 9 months, same happened with 2 ball joints. To be fair the changed them no problem but I hate having to do a job twice, OK its nothing to do with the tensioners but their quality on none original equipment is suspect to say the least

Used an eBay purchased kit for valve chains/guides/tensioners/gaskets etc. No problems with installation. Can't speak to longevity. Some folks here have received primary guides that were too long for their year/model. You would have to search through past threads to see the issues. There are a couple/few different designs and lengths for the primary guides, some with plastic, others with aluminum only.

I think its all about the seller. I generally don't buy ebay part kits unless theres no option. I would rather overpay, and buy from a trusted seller so I know what I am getting.

Not saying you can't do very well from eBay, but I don't have time to go back and forth if there are issues. I usually confirm what I want then buy.

YMMV

There are a few Jag dealers that sell discount parts on ebay, and many of the sellers have parts from known after market manufacturers. You can ask the seller who made the parts before ordering.

I would not buy electronics like MAFS or engine parts such as chains and tensioners made in China.

Get in touch with Eurojag in the UK. My Jaguar independent occasionally puts in used parts, and he uses Eurojag to source them. They are not the kind of people who would skimp on new or used quality.

I enthusiastically recommend that you buy a kit with camshaft locks/flex plate plug and associated bits on eBay if replacing primary and secondary timing chains and tensioners. Commonly available for less than 50 bucks and priceless for the job at hand.
