Replacing the latch mechanism is likely the answer here I'm guessing but thought I'd share the issue to see if anyone might have a simpler solution.
The passenger door lock will not operate by power but the rest of the locking system works correctly if I keep the P side handle in the locked position. If I keep that door locked, the driver's side lock will cycle 3x when unlocked after driving as if attempting to unlock the P side. I can hear a click near the P side handle each time the lock cycles both to lock and unlock position.

You very possibly need a new micro switch, much cheaper than get (if you could find one) switch.
Lots of DIY write ups on this procedure and not a bad job, Jon89 and I did his wife's car and having to play with the adjustment on the switch was the pain. Got really good at take the switch in and out. Do not put the door card back on until you have it adjusted in the right position.

Sounds like a faulty door latch assembly microswitch. Quite a few of us have had to replace them as the years go by....

Getting the rod off the mechanism ...the black ball joint connector is a pain. Take a large crow bar feed it down from above put it behind the black plastic and push top of bar to rear..it pops off nice.
To replace put the connector over the ball and holdall in place with a large lump of foam pushed up behind the handle. Put same crowbar this time horizontal against the joint and push. EPLS
