Default PO "improved" top seal?

Quick question. I'm trying to track down rain ingress, and I now believe it's coming in through the roof gasket before flowing down the window gasket to the passenger side floor.

Is this a piece of baker rod a previous owner shoved into the gasket trying to make it seal? Or did it come from the factory like this? In the picture I've pulled it out from where it was tucked in.

The bit of foam rod is pretty beat up, so maybe it sealed the leak a while back but has worn out since.

This is from the PO... right?

It has been over 6 years since I had my windshield header cover off, but I saw the end of a factory cord insert such as you show (I had to get to the screw on each end that is hidden by the weatherstrip). I assume that the cord is encapsulated within the weatherstrip, and if so, I would not just yank it out. If I am mistaken, someone please correct me.

Yeah, the cord was just tucked up under the lip of rubber. It wasn't attached to anything, though, just loose up in there.

Since it was so beat up I took it out for replacement. It came right out and was about three inches long.

Sounds like a factory feature, so I'm going to try to replace it with a new one.
