I've been thinking of fitting a full set of Powerflex bushes to my 1999 4L xk over the winter months.
Has anybody done similar? I have read that they can increase the road noise, but equally some people are raving about the feel and handeling improments.

I put a full set on an old Corvette. Dumbest thing I've ever done.

 

Did all of mine in the front and have started on the back. Very happy with the results with respect to handling and overall feel.

The front lower control arm bushes made the most difference to the road noise / vibration transfer but I have 18" wheels so it isn't too big a change and is tolerable. Larger wheels might be more sensitive.

Most of the "noise" is just resonance in the cabin (I have a coupe) and I think adding some Dynamat will probably quiet it down to be even better than before the bushes.

 

I tried them on my sway bar, then drove it. Came back, took them off and put on OEM rubber. I didn't like the extra vibration through the steering wheel (I have 19" wheels). Full poly on the upper a-arms and lower control arms will certainly stiffen up the suspension, but at what cost? I lean towards a more 'comfortable' ride, others prefer the better handling characteristics.

 

Yep and after 2-3yrs all the grease will be gone and you will get the squeaks.

 

Did mine front and rear 2 years ago.
I was having problems with wheel balance and it wasn't the ball joints.
It's a low mileage car, even now at only 44k miles.
Rebushed the front. What I took out wasn't bad, but it made the front feel slightly better connected. Did the rear when I rebuilt the diff, again slight improvement in feel. Neither end made much difference to noise, but it is a convertible on 20" wheels.
My problem was old style pirelli's. I changed to later Pzero's and a careful fitter with a road force balance machine. Problem completely solved.
So Original rubber had been good for long enough, not a lot of change to noise and slight positive change to feel. At least when I get under to clean it. They make it look smarter lol.
