There should be 4 bolts on bottom of the rack that let you swing it forward, perhaps this will give you room to unhook the power,I've not tried to completely remove the amp. I would think there would be a fuse on that circuit also.

You can take out fuse #18 30A in the trunk fuse box - this supplies power to the amp.
This will also cause you to lose sound input to the radio as well.
Your amp will be located in the bracket below your convertible top fluid resevior, just above cd changer. Just need to take bolts out to gain access.

8+1 on above. Don't get thrown how hard it is to disconnect the cable to cd changer. Thick grey cable black connector 4 or 5 inches from rack.
You need to pull apart, no twist, no tab, just patience and a bit of muscle.
Hey 1 more thing - be careful taking out the 4 bolts holding the rack in. Lots of very sharp edges in the back area.
I recall a post from a couple of years ago same thing but the gentleman ID'd the culprit and replaced a transistor or integrated circuit to fix. Thought it might help if you decide to fix yourself.

Up Date removed the power amp, checked for any line fuses near by.
Bought a new amp , installed it and fan still remains on constantly except when I remove the 30 amp fuse.
I am beginning to think the amp has some internal over heat protection. Yet , when car is cold and fuse is replaced, the amp fan motor again remains on as before.
Lower amp fuses have the same result.
I disconnected the cd unit thinking there was a feedback causing the problem but the problem still happens.

Don't fully understand - do you have two problems ?? ..........
1. No power to head unit. (Does the power antenna go up and down - is there any sign of life at all when you press the 'on' button ?
2. Amplifier won't switch off ? Does the amplifier remain on if the head unit is disconnected ?
Could you give us the full picture and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

But it shouldn't .............. !!
I have the early Harmon-Karden system which is wired in a totally different way to the Alpine kit you have but ........... the head unit sends a wake-up signal to the amplifier when you switch it on. So - if the amplifier remains on even if the head unit is disconnected, it narrows down the possibilities for fault checking.

The speaker amp fan did not turn off even when the ignition was off.
Being A-retentive I removed the fuses from engine, passenger fascia and luggage boxes. I reassembled all according to the best information I could find.
Problem solved. Apparently last service either the fuses were replaced incorrectly or not well seated.
Thank you everyone for your kind advice.
