Numbers for 2000 were partial since that is when book was written. For your information this book also has the sales figures by market area also.

WOW - We really do seem to have rare, individual, almost hand-made cars! Given the rest of the auto world, if you also divide these numbers by color. each of our "loves" is almost unique - remember that when it comes time to sell! DaleD

 

And the Coupes are rarer than the Convertibles.

wow the numbers are low. Sets them up for a collector car many years from now. Now to find a XKR from 97.

 

My greatest fear is that between the plastic engine parts and electronics these cars are going to be much harder to keep drivable when they reach the age of collectible status.

 

Very interesting data. Been wondering about this for my 99 xk8 conv.

 

That is where you find an enterprising individual who can get their hands on some of those plastic parts and fabricate them out of something more durable.

 

Hmmm... I hadn't thought about the electronics. I'm sure there will come a point when a replacement ECU is simply no longer available. What happens then?

 

ECU's are always repairable. Just have to find someone who does it. My 88 Rolls Royce has ECU's and there are a few electronics repair companies that repair them.

 

Does anyone know how to find out exactly what build number my XK8 is?

 

The supply chain for Jaguar must be part of/organized by Ford, the real question is since the sale to TATA, how long will Ford support the supply chain.

 

Ford is still supplying a lot of parts for Jag/LR. Ford supplies the engines on a contract thru 2019.

 

Anybody know how many they tabbed as 2006 models? I suspect they show up in the 2005 numbers on these lists since they were actually built in 2005. Mine shows a build date of March, '05.

I think all of the XK's built in '05 were sold as '06's. In '06, they started selling the '07 new XK's.

 

I wonder if there is also a source for how many were sold of a particular exterior/interior color.

My understanding is that the build number, date, market & model is in the VIN number
of the car ?
