When I bought this car it came with both the OEM and custom armrest, so I cannot tell you what year it came from. Search the forum, someone put up pics and text of their creation a few years ago. I think they may have used an armrest from same era XJ, but a UK spec model.

What color do you need? Mine is cashmere and I am not 100% sure I want to leave it on. Those cups are right where my arm lands and in the Texas heat they get uncomfortably warm.

Update: I believe the XJ40 has the correct no-holder armrest. You will have to modify to get the holders as shown on mine.

Mine is oatmeal. Don't think I'd want those cups in it anyway. I'd rather just have a plain armrest. The original one even if it wasn't bad placement is useless. Won't hold anything. Small objects fall back inside it. And with it closed as mine is most of the time, it randomly pops open when hitting a bump or something. I'll likely keep what I have. I just happened across one that was correct color and price was right. Then top it all off, it said it would fit. Now it has vanished. Maybe it was a dream? If so I'm going to have to change something. Surely one could dream better than that. From what little bit I've looked into it, seems maybe there was an option, or different offerings somewhere. Memory tells me it was maybe a 93or 4.xj. All I've run across have had cup holders. I'm not wanting to pay what people are wanting for them anyway. Think I've got the latch working better on mine now.

For those of you thinking about refinishing your armrest for a winter project, I found a great alternative to EBay or Amazon…Etsy.

I purchased a genuine leather replacement cover from a seller named Himmelinc. He does replacement covers for seats and convertible tops as well.

Etsy has other sellers doing similar things so it’s worth checking out. There are also replacement armrest covers for the XJ8, which doesn’t have the cup holder if you’re interested in that mod.

Attached are pics of my old flat wrinkled Dove cover and the new one after a few coats of leather conditioner. I also added 1/2” of foam to the top from a craft store.

I apologize I never did follow up but I slathered on two good coats of Seat Doctor and it looks as good as new. I need to swing by the car today, try to remember pix.
