Purge valve
Hi
I have posted before about stumbling engine as the revs rise, most notably above 3k. Thought it was many different potential issues and all checked out so.. the last one, with no codes being thrown for it was to check the purge valve.
Pulled it today and it is not working. All the pipes and lines are all in very good condition and no problems there but the purge valve, when 12v added is not opening.
Valve is LJB1515AA
These now cannot be found and the only one new I see is the LJG1515BB
From searching I see that this can be fitted if there is a modified top vent pipe and filter added. but on some posts I see that some people are saying that an ECU update is needed yet when I look at the TSB from Jag on this there is no mention of a need to upgrade the ECU software. Am I missing something? UK car with no EGR so it might be a simple replace and add pipe and filter. (hopefully)

I just replaced mine (US Car). No idea if it wasn't working, but since I was replacing consumables I ordered a new one. Mine already had the hose routed to the engine compartment with the fuel filter attached to the end for venting, so likely it had been replaced, but for $150-ish I figured it was cheap(ish) insurance.
This is the one I found on Ebay and ordered and it plugged right in.

I seriously doubt the purge valve is the cause of your stumble. The old valve was open to atmosphere via the top cap. The new style wants you to connect that gas filter thingy so that the outside air is filtered. My SWAG is that they theorized that the valves were sticking due to atmospheric gunk and schmutz (two technical terms) causing the sticking.
Mine also had a stuck valve, but no stumbles. I replaced mine and just left it open. If the thing sticks in the next 20 years, oh, well.

Maybe yours was a different problem? Mine is stuck in close, no air flow through the main two port points which is leading to a vacuum lock in the tank. i know this as when I take the cap off it hisses with air flow inwards.
I'll give it a go anyways as its out now and not expensive to replace. If it isnt thats one less thing to narrow down and try and alleviate. Going to also check the vacuum line from the engine to the valves down there also.
