Default Quarter Glass Help!!

A couple of years ago my left rear quarter glass wouldn't go open or close. The metal wire that goes through the white plastic guide broke the guide and got tangled in the motor. I cut off the wire and freed the motor allowing me to open and close the glass manually.

Now I want a solution. My car is scheduled to go to the bodyshop to get a new paint job on the 4th if all goes well and my investor doesn't flake out. He suggested we get that problem fixed as well while we're at it.

I took a picture today of the problem. Here it is:

Yes, I broke the clear plastic the last time I was here. So what can I do? I was thinking of making a metal replica and buying some new steel wire and rethread it all.

Is there a better solution? Part numbers? Anyone have a better idea?

Is there a way of getting the assembly out of the car to work more comfortably?

PS: I just noticed I got Phil's problem with sideways iPad pictures.

Best plan is to change the regulator (that includes the motor, all the cables/pulleys but does not include the glass) - everything I read indicates a repair isn't going to permanent. You can get replacements from SNG Barrett for about $250.

I did mine last weekend. Took me about 6 hours start to finish. There's some great instructions here - http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...lacement-2.pdf

Also some useful info here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...8-conv-121690/

I'd also add that it makes it easier to remove/tighten the front hex bolt holding the outer window seal if you remove the glass stop from the regulator first (easy to do, with a single bolt)

Good luck!

The thread here is actually for replacing the regulator, but has some useful pics and does show the cable layout. See post #6 for the .pdf document with pictures.

Might not be exactly what you need, but hope it helps.

Thanks guys... Gee, $250 for the regulator assembly.

Why did Jaguar have to use to many damn plastics in these cars?
