Possibly a sticky micro switch.

Having a similar problem. Roof closes and latches fine, but quarter windows don't go up. After a few seconds of holding the switch the pump stops and I get a "Hood not Latched" message. Tried opening and closing several times, a couple times the quarter windows came up part way; since those tries they don't come up at all.

Since they came up part way I figure it's not a fuse but must be the switch that says the hood is up and latched. Now I just have to find that.

If the top closes and latches, but the rear windows do not roll up, it sounds like it may be the microswitch near the rear ram that senses if the top is locked. If the rams do not lock the top up, the rear windows will not roll up unless they are over ridden via the trunk relays or installing a separate rear window switch.

Thanks,

Don't suppose you have a reference with a diagram or picture of where the microswitch is and how to fix/replace it?

How close to closing are the windows getting?

There is a troubleshooting guide for the top here: http://jagrepair.com/images/TSB/XK8/501-11am.pdf

The microswitch for the ram is built into the ram. I am not fully convinced though that this is the problem.

Wiring diagrams with locations of parts are also on the Jagrepair site.

I agree WhiteXKR, it sounds like there are two different problems from two posters. To the OP, how far up do the windows get, and does the power to them cut in and out while going up, or do they seem to just run out of steam on the way up as if something is jamming them? Also, do both windows act the same and make it up the same amount?

To silver2000, the top must work in sequence in order to function properly. If it gets out of sequence or confused, other parts will stop working. If you have a message that says the "top is not latched" I would try to reset the top system and disconnect the battery. Also check that the hydraulic fluid is filled enough in the trunk reservoir. After it is reconnected and if it shows the same fault, I would suspect the latch is not operating correctly, which would probably prevent the rear windows from rolling up. On second thought, I just saw your post said "hood not latched." Does it say "hood not latched" or "top not latched?"

I would only suspect the ram's microswitch if the top raises and latches properly but the rear windows will not even try to go up.

In my multiple attempts they only went up twice, About 1/3 and then about 1/2. Since that, they don't move. Also, I tried a hard reset thinking the system might be out of sync, it didn't make any difference.

It says "Hood not latched". Hydraulic tank is properly filled.

Ah, you must have your instrument pack readout set to a different language. It all means the same. I believe on mine it will say "top not latched." You can change the display language manually.

I would suspect a problem with the latch mechanism. I believe there is a microswitch in there. Have you tried to clean/lube the latch mechanism? Also, have you tried to latch the top manually with the allen key? If you have, does the display still read "hood not latched?"

Als, just to clarify, when you press the top up button, rear windows stay put halfway up, top comes up, latch is in the up position and catches the hook on the top, the latch pulls the top down and seals it, yet the "hood not latched" is still displayed?

Didn't know I could change to "American English", I'll leave that for now.

The roof retracts fine, although when it gets down I have been getting the "Hood not Latched" light momentarily, which it never did before. the quarter windows are now down and stuck down through multiple cycles of the roof.

I did try to latch the top manually at some point in trying to figure it out, it didn't trigger the window. I'll give a look at the latch and see if it's dirty in there.

Problem solved! Thanks for all the help with this one, hold on to your hats.

A screw, that holds the guide pin on the roof, that fits into the right hand side lock of the roof, came loose and fell into the hole, blocking the small ram from closing all the way and thus, making the car think the top wasn't completely closed.

Screw replaced, all other screws tightened. A good day.

Thanks again for all the help.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix and cheap too.

Hi,
I have the same issue. Although top opens and closes not error message but rear windows (quarter) won't go all the way up. Stuck at 80% on one side (passenger, on the right, USA model). Also there's a small gap as well on the front windows (both) won't close all the way but are 95% up.
Would you have a picture of the screws you mentioned and its locations please?
Thank you so much!
