Queen's English Car Show
I finally registered and hope to be getting there around 9 plus or minus. The person I talked with who is sponsoring the event says that folks drift in at all times so it doesn't really matter. The main thing is that I hope to find space along with the other XK8/XKR vehicles of our generation.

Not sure who is the designated leader for the XK8/R group at this event, but you do know the forum expects lots of pictures. A field full of British cars deserves many, many pictures.
If there are no pictures, it didn't happen.

Hey Doug,
No reason to be so early, we just didn't know what to expect so George and I showed up early. There was plenty of room, it's supposed to be fun, come when you feel like it, we'll see you whenever.
The story about the 2010 XKR in capsulated form is this:
My 2002 XKR vert is rapidly approaching 150,000 miles, and although it looks and drives like new, I'd like to extend its life by not putting 20-25 thousand miles on it every year. So I have been perusing ads for 5.0L coupes, figuring I could also take it to the track a couple of times per year rather than my Pantera (which is just a little too old for some of the venues without power steering and a gearbox that takes both hands and both eyes to shift with any speed through the "Ferrari" style gate.) I saw a local car that had a lot of mileage (68K) but looked nice. I asked the owner to bring the car to my mechanic so we could scope it. It coded an errant cam sensor like I replaced on my 2002 a week or so earlier. But, my mechanic said that he could tell by the sound of the engine that the car would throw a rod soon. The owner, after getting over the shock, remembered that he had purchased an extended insurance policy, and contacted them. They are paying to have an engine that has 6K miles on it sent to my mechanic for installation. Or, it appears that a single pair of rod bearings created the problem, and I am awaiting today or tomorrow a set, about $20 in parts. We may put the original engine back together or install the "new" one. Either way, it will be almost a new car. We have already agreed upon a price I can live with especially on one with a new or newly rebuilt engine. I plan on doing the pulley upgrade, the Mina RS side skirts, and a really great looking rear bumper/diffuser from a company in Chicago. It's a little presumptuous until everything is put back together, but I think it will happen in the next three or four weeks.
I may have a 5.0L engine for sale soon. Anyone interested?

Matthew,
As the saying goes, "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!" The insurance company does not pay a dime until the car is completely repaired, which protects the current owner of the policy and the car. This puts an unusually unfair burden on the shop doing the work as they have to pay for the engine, parts, labor...up front (and 5.0L engines are not exactly inexpensive.)
I will purchase the car from the owner once it's put back together and running to my satisfaction. However, since it's my mechanic who is doing the work, I helped him out and paid for the engine, and he will reimburse me once he is paid. It's a complicated transaction that I hope all works out well in the end.
We'll see.

This year's show appears to have a better turn out than last year. The forum member presence was much more improved - all super nice guys in very cool rides. Tberg's ubiquous XKR and another XKR owned by Doug - btw, beautiful car. Pleasure to meet Tom in his BRG XK. The F-Type were a lethal force to recon with the two Rs. If things progress, the forum should get their own corral. May be I will be back in Jaguar camp by then...
Just got back from the Queen's English Car Show (had breakfast with Tirefriar above before the show). Attendance and car registration both seemed to be far greater than last year's. I would guess about 200+ cars including many Jaguars and a good sampling of forum members. A little later this afternoon I will upload many pictures of the event. Outside of broken men's restroom that kept the line in front of the single porta-potty about 45 minutes to an hour and gusty winds that blew every conceivable pine needle, pine cone, and pine residue off of the towering trees and onto (and into the convertibles) the cars as well as swirling dust on the ground, it was a great day and a fabulous turnout. A young Jaguar factory engineer who drove up in one of the two F-types, furiously dusted his car about every 5 minutes (to no avail), I gave up after the third attempt.
Stay tuned!

Just got back from the show and it was quite fun, although hotter and dustier than it needed to be.
I met George (TireFriar), Tom, and of course Ted as well as many other interesting characters. The saddest was one guy with a pristine maroon XK-E coupe (he does very high end auto upholstery). He was polishing up his car and said it was for sale. He had spent 12 years restoring it but he had some pressing financial needs and he hated the thought of parting with the car but sometimes other things in life take precedence.
I felt great when a middle aged couple came up to admire my car and the guy was asking if I wanted to sell it. He has started doing research about these cars and I advised him to browse around the forum here. He truly appreciated my car so that was pleasing.
However, the nicest story regarding my car happened just before leaving. I had been parked next to a British guy who apparently was somehow involved in the original launching our our generation XK8/R and he had driven up with a loaded to the gills new F8-R. He seemed to love my car and kept telling passersby how those were the best generation, yada, yada, yada.
Anyway right before I left I was lurking in the background eating my hamburger and notice some guy walking up looking at my car, looking at the F, looking at my car again and then spending a bunch more time looking at my car. So I walk up and ask which car he likes better. Without hesitation he said my car (he actually thought I owned both). So that made my day.
Here are some pictures (hope I am doing this right).

Doug
Ok, so Doug has posted some terrific pictures of today's event, and here are some more, including the most important ones first, those of Doug, Ralph, George in one and Doug, Ralph, and me in the other. Enjoy!
Here's the first set. I'll post another set next with some additional comments.

In this next set, there are a couple of notable photos. There is a shot of Doug's (SeismicGuy) beautiful XKR parked next to the F-type S, and the interesting thing is how big and how tall the F-type is, considerably higher than the XKR. There is a shot of Jay Leno's spectacular McClaren (yellow/carbon fiber), Forum member Ralph's XKR convertible, a British mini-tank (yellow), and my favorite little detail of the whole show, a door handle. This beautiful older Lotus coupe drove past me, and I noticed this simple, elegant, piece of "art." I photographed it from every angle I thought it was so beautiful, and I pointed it out to Doug, who I see included its image on his post, as well. Enjoy again!
Mike,
I actually took a number of photos of the two primrose yellow XKE convertibles because I remembered how much you liked that car. Here they are, I hadn't yet had a chance to reduce the file size so that I could upload them, but look below.

Yes, you know my weak spot. The only car I have ever owned that rivals the blue cat for beauty was a 1969 E-type OTS in primrose yellow. God I miss that car.
It is nice to put faces with the names and cars.
Nice assortment of Sunbeams, all Tigers and a 289 car to boot. Always had a soft spot for that car, in spite of all sense and practicality. I really need to get mine put back together.
Thanks for sharing!

That blue/blue 120 is beautiful. Along with all the other ones.. wish I lived close by!
And yes, nice to put some names-to-faces-to-Jaguars!
Thanks for the pics!
Side note... no complaining about the dust... its still 50s and rain here
