Default Racing Stripes

From the January 2009 issue of Classic & Sports Car magazine, I saw sale ads for these E-Types:
The $5 million 1960 Le Mans racer:

And this 1964 racer:

These two photos stirred my curiosity as how racing stripes would look on a XK8. So, so I did two quick photoshop tries on XK8 pics I found on Autotrader:
Before:

After:

Before:

After:

I think the results were interesting.

Couldn't see the photos. Maybe you haven't got them formatted correctly.

I copied and pasted the photos in the browser and they worked.

Nice work with your photoshop, but I prefer the clean look of the car without the stripes.

Oh nuts, sorry about the non-viewable photos. Oddly, I'm able to see them on the computer I was working on, but then moving to my laptop, there are blank spaces where the photos are suppose to be. Well, I'll try to sort this out, but in the meantime, here are the urls to the photos in order. To view, you have to cut & paste the url onto your browser, simply clicking on them will not work (yes, another thing I need to sort out, argh!):

The $5 million racer:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY...0050833733.jpg

The 1964 racer:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY...Race%20Car.jpg

Before photos of a pic I found on Autotrader:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY..._A.562x421.jpg

After with stripes:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY...h%20stripe.jpg

Another bare pic:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY..._A.562x421.jpg

After with stripes:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_11GRmThkNg0/SY...h%20stripe.jpg

If anyone has an idea why the photos can't be seen, let me know, I'll appreciate it. Again, I was able to successfully view them last night when I started the thread using the url option to post photos.

I think the problem may lie with the photo sharing site. I'm using Picasaweb from Google. Perhaps I'll try another sharing site like kodak or snapfish.

Maybe this will work...for some reason, after I 'copy link location' and pasted into the browser, it appears the next time viewing the page...weird.

I have to agree that the stripes are a bit much on this car. It deters from the classic nature of the body style. They did make a special addition XK with stripes only on the front fenders (it was silver with a red and green band) which I found very nice looking, however, I cannot recall what the edition was called, nor can I remember where to get a picture of it.

I finally figured it out. Not sure why but if I dragged the photo icon on to my desktop, I could right click on it and select open. That worked. Btw, nice photos!

I think you have to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket.

H20Boy,

Here's a link to a E type Select Edition with stripes. Pretty cool looking!

Pics don't work for me. But racing stripes on an XK would look like crap. Unless...

BRG coupe, black interior
one small yellow stripe that is centered on the steering wheel.
lowered
agressive fittament, black or charcoal, 19" wheels
loud exhaust

Here's another try to get the pics to be viewable on this thread. I signed up with PhotoBucket. Let's see how it goes.

If there's still trouble with viewing the photos, then cut & paste will have to do.

Did a little research, seems it is a 2005 XKR Sterling Moss Edition, only 5 made.

Hmmm... one minute I can post photos, and other minute it's gone all awry. It's getting a bit frustrating.

White Out, attached are some photoshopped photos (with "before" photos) of what I think you're looking for, British Racing Green with one yellow stripe and black rims, although, I couldn't find a BRG with black interior.

Default Racing Stripes xk8

I think they look great, I've been thinking about possibly Grand Sport style hash mark stripes on the fender(s) or maybe a cross the hood type like early Triumph tr-4's

That blue XK with the white stripes looks pretty good! I don't think stripes would look good on my silver convertible, though. I guess it depends on the look that you're going for; if you want classy elegance, then they look good in solid. If you want a sporty, race car look, the the stripes have merit.

I think the wide stripes seem to distract from the classic hood lines of the XK. Perhaps finer lines or pinstriping to accent the hood shape might look OK, but I have no photoshop abitities to show this.

I always thought that the stripes look good on a Viper. Don't like them so much on an XK.

This is how I am painting my track car, I like the stripes with the 2 tone effect at the back.

But I will be using Slate Pearl instead of the green, the hood will be carbon fibre, unpainted but with the silver stripes.

Don't think I would do it to a standard XK, I do know someone who has a vinyl wrap with cream and green stripes, not to my taste I must admit!

You know how it goes, "to each his own" I say "race em' if ya got em' "
and if you can't race them, make them look fast sitting still! Jaguars are cool, racing stripes or no. And as far as class goes, Ferrari's have racing stripes.
