Default Radiator fan not coming on 98 XK8 Help ;)

Hi all - well what a day i had yesterday - i'll tell you a bit more sometime but meanwhile:
My 1998 XK8 Coupe over-heated for the 1st time yesterday, though i did think it was a little bit hot last week but the daft temp gauge didn't let me know.
Yesterday i got caught in two very long queues of traffic.
In the 2nd one - i noticed the gauge had moved up to the start of the red, so i found a suitable spot and stopped.
I let it cool, checked the water, plenty of water.
Called the AA - they checked car - followed me home, car seemed ok, got caught in a little bit of traffic and it went into the red again.
He checked it when it was hot and said - yes the fans weren't coming on - he wasn't particularly clued up on our beautiful cars so didn't know where to look to check what's up?
The heater was able to blow hot air, and all hoses were warm, he checked for trapped air - all seemed ok - so my guess is it's all down to the fans.
I'm going to take it (very carefully) to a close by Jag Indie - someone already mentioned it might be a sensor problem / temp switch fault.
Any other ideas - do you agree with above solution?
Where exactly is the fuse for the fans? The AA guy didn't know which one would be for the fans
I googled it and it said it's a 80 amp fuse or something? But he couldn't see anything like that ... please some advice guys.

Appears to be fuses 12 and 14 in the left side engine bay fuse box . . . at least for my '02. Should be the same for yours. Thirty amps each.

Here is the complete fuse chart for the '02 and it is with very minor differences correct for all years or at least the '96 - '02.

It is on the trunk fuse panel lid on the early cars and in the owners manual in others. I think I cut/pasted/edited the owners manual to produce the .pdf file.

Had this on my XKR some years back, took me some time to identify, the problem normally lies with the Relay because jaguar have put it in such an inhospitable area, so I replaced mine, same problem, I turned my attention to the temp switch - shorted the connector out with a 100 ohm resistor to simulate the operating signal , same problem. Close inspection revealed the wires to the relay connector had corroded, soldered in new wires & new connector all was well again. This time I sealled everything with RTV to stop any further water ingress.
