Rain Sensing wipers INOP (2003 XKR)
I leave my wipers in automatic all the time. Then to my surprise one day when the rain came and the wipers didn't activate...Wipers work normally on all other modes.
About a year after I noticed the wiper failure, the convertible top latch has begun leaking. My thought is these two different failures may be related. If the RAM was leaking for some time, then a small amount of fluid might have gotten into the connector or somewhere else causing havoc, but not enough leakage to make it through the console.
I never noticed any leakage until now.
Ideas?

In the XJ8 the rain sensing unit is beneath the ecu. I cleaned the contacts of the unit and the wipers are now somewhat less errant than before. They still seem to have a mind of their own. May have to replace the gel holding the sensor to the windshield.
