Default Re Chrome main beam reflectors (UK)

Have needed one of my main beam reflectors re chromed for some time but the nice MOT man has passed it twice with some aluminium tape over the lower half. Re chrome prices were stupid until I found this .

sales@chromefix.co.uk who replied...

We can strip, polish and re-chrome the part for £40 + vat (our minimum charge) + P&P -£ 9.95 +vat via fed-ex tracked next day delivery .

If that min charge would cover two I dont know .....over to you its in Birmingham.

Looks like a good find but not sure they will do the X100 headlight reflectors as I think they are plastic.
The other issue is separating the glass lens from the reflector as they are bonded together.

Dont think its plastic as it seems to have a rolled edge....Its 3.5 in Dia and I have found a 4 in metal reflector which I may try to tiim down and put a 1/2in hole in the back then thread it over the bulb and stick it in with silicone.
Pattern is largely unimportant for the main beam as long as it looks shiny for the MOT man

You dont need to separate the glass to get access to the high beam reflector

Ah OK, you're talking about the main (high) beam reflector. This may well be metal as it is separate from the glass and reflector sub-assembly. My reflector is more black than chrome in the ridged area on this sub-assembly so I'm keeping an eye out for solutions to this problem. There are some useful videos on this subject here (https://www.tothegarage.co.uk/services-2)

Yes, see picture below (with thanks to wymjym), on my LH headlight the circled area has lost most of its reflective surface.

none of that area is important..it has nothing to do with the beam pattern just cosmetic

that is incorrect, the veined area diffuses the light

Some confusing here....
The main beam reflector is steel not plastic (I've just tested it with a magnet)
The reflective plastic that is bonded to the glass lens is another thing.
You dont have to remove the glued glass to get access to the MAIN BEAM reflector.
The headlight assembly is made up of two parts that are just snapped together, the rear part witch hold the main beam reflector and low beam projector, and the front part with the glass glued to the reflective plastic part.

In US (or some states) they want to diffuse some light upwards to light up overhead traffic signs. I dont think that relates to any country in Europe.
I have painted mine black, and it will do nothing to the actually beam pattern or light output on the road.
